Orion
is rich with colorful nebulae, and many are far from the most
photographed area between M42 and the Horsehead. This region is at the
right of the Orion's head, and 2° north of Bellatrix. The colorful
nebula at left is VdB 38 (also named/part of Sh2-263 and LBN866). At
right lies the large Sh2-265,
composed of parts of dust (yellow/orange) and emission nebula in
H-alpha (deep red). A much better view of Sh2-265 would be obtained
imaging with a H-alpha filter, and I hope to have the opportunity to add
this in the future.
In the higher resolution version also many galaxies are visible, e.g. at
the top-left (UGC 3293 and PGC 900006) or at righ (behind the nebula,
PGC 142816).
Unfortunately I acquired only a single night of data, for a total of
less than 4 hours exposure. This object would have required a much
longer exposure, and so my result is quite noisy.
